We are devoted to improving cancer care in Oklahoma and the world. We actively treat cancer patients, do pioneering research into new treatments and prevention, and teach the next generation of physicians methods to participate in the constant search for new and better therapies.

Prior to being recuited to Oklahoma, Dr. Dooley directed the award-winning Johns Hopkins Breast Center and was on the faculty of both the Departments of Surgery and Oncology of Johns Hopkins Medicine. His practice there consisted of treating breast cancer and a number of complex and recurrent cancer problems including sarcoma, melanoma, etc.

In 2001 Dr. Dooley was named The G. Rainey Williams Professor for Surgical Oncology at The University of Oklahoma and charged with improving breast cancer detection, care and prevention for women in Oklahoma, the nation and the world.  We set as our goals to be:

1.     Sooner to the diagnosis.

2.     Sooner to the most effective treatment.

3.     Sooner to improving the quality of breast cancer survivorship.

4.     Sooner to prevention of breast cancer.

5.     Sooner to the basic biologic understanding of this devastating disease.

6.     Sooner to development of newer methods of detection and treatment.

7.     Sooner to establishing the benchmarks by which all breast cancer treatment is measured.

These are lofty goals but we have assembled a team of some of the best in their fields anywhere to achieve these goals. Cancer is a difficult process to always diagnose and treat successfully but we hope to improve the outcome each year for all effected.

We are an institute and not just a center. Breast centers are collaborative efforts of usually clinical physicians and nurses brought together to deliver more coordinated breast healthcare. We are that and more. We are charged with the duty to investigate and develop better ways to treat, diagnose, or prevent. As an institute we are a center for learning. We develop and modify the methods used by physicians everywhere to deal with this disease. We teach new doctors and nurses to not settle for the treatments and methods of the past but to expand our knowledge and improve the future for those at risk for breast cancer. We also train current doctors, nurses, and numerous allied health care providers about the latest methods.

One of the most often overlooked members of a successful healthcare team is included in ours – you, the patient. We want to educate you about this disease and how you can help by participating in your care. We want to hear from you what we can do better. We want you to actively join us in the effort to improve breast cancer detection, prevention and treatment. Because breast cancer treatment still leaves many with life-long changes in their body and their emotional well being, we strive to lessen the effects of this disease on you and your life. You may join us in numerous clinical research efforts to further understand how we can prevent the problems associated with previous cancer treatments and how we can improve the quality and quantity of your years as a breast cancer survivor.
